Sir John Carling Building, Ottawa, Ontario

Introduction

The Sir John Carling Building in Ottawa, Ontario was selected as one of twenty-three buildings to be reviewed in a nationwide field condition survey of cladding on public buildings. The purpose of the study was to review symptoms of performance problems with various cladding systems, and develop recommendations regarding the design, construction, maintenance, and long term durability of generic wall systems. The scope of work for he study, therefore, did not include a detailed investigation of specific problems, but dealt with general observations of wall components and other parameters which influence wall system behaviour. The review of the Carling Building was conducted on December 12 and 13, 1988 and March 12, 1989.
