Current areas of interest:
Investigation of lighting components and system performance, primarily focused on commercial building facilities. Cooperative work with national and international research organizations to assess emerging lighting technologies, promote new ones and improve associated design and diagnostic tools. Preparation and maintenance of departmental lighting standards, guidelines and best practices. Field assessment of lighting systems performance. Labour code site investigations. Ivan Pasini has written or co-authored over 30 publications, of which 15 were in refereed journals or conference proceedings.

He is a registered professional engineer of the Province of Ontario, a member of the Canadian Standards Association C232-23 Technical Committee on Industrial Products since 1986 and a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) since 1975 and currently a member of its Technical Committees on Daylighting, and Office Lighting; he is also the Canadian Representative Member on the International Commission on Illuminations (CIE).
